Garyeong Falls

Garyeong Falls is a waterfall hidden in nature at the southwestern foot of Baekamsan Mountain (1,099m), a remote area. It is also called Gaeryeong Falls, meaning 'opening the soul.' As the 5th of Hongcheon's 9 Scenic Views, it features a majestic 50m-high waterfall cascading down a rocky cliff with a thunderous roar. The surrounding area is home to numerous wild vegetables, medicinal herbs, and wildflowers, making it a paradise for mountain birds. Garyeong Falls is known as a waterfall that rarely reveals itself due to the dense forest. The area around the falls is sparsely populated, preserving clean waterfall water and natural beauty. The path to Garyeong Falls has many slopes with rocks and soil, so it is advisable to wear sturdy shoes. The common route goes via Hongcheon-Cheoljeong Checkpoint-Naechon-myeon Dogwan-ri-Oea Samgeori-Yeonhwasa Temple. From Yeonhwasa Temple, following the forest path and stream for about 20 minutes leads to the waterfall, which, though modest in size, produces a powerful sound and offers cool, refreshing relief even in midsummer.
