Destination briefing
Why travelers stop here
Jugok-ri, a quiet fishing village that once lived with the sea as its nest, used to have about 20 boats going out to sea to catch fish. Now, only traces remain, and small-scale factories have taken their place. The port where fishing boats used to come and go lost its role as a fishing port in 2020 when the Hwaong Embankment was built. Reed fields are growing thickly along the waterways that once served the port. Although most have given up fishing, a few households still go out to sea. You can also see people cleaning fish caught at the nearby Gungpyeong Port. The Seonchang Port fish market is still actively operating, with visitors coming to buy various salted seafood, large prawns, blue crabs, and shellfish fresh and cheap.
