Why travelers stop here
Prince Seongnyeong (Yi Jong) was the fourth son of King Taejong of Joseon and the younger brother of Prince Yangnyeong and Prince Chungnyeong (King Sejong the Great). He became a grand prince in 1414 and was favored by his father for his dignified demeanor and intelligence from a young age. However, he died of measles at the age of 14. King Taejong was deeply grieved and personally composed a eulogy, and had a hermitage called Daejaam built next to the tomb to pray for the prince's soul. The tomb of Prince Seongnyeong is located at the foot of Daeja Mountain. It consists of three tiers of long stone blocks, surrounded by protective stones. In front of the tomb are a stone table and a long stone lantern, with stone civil officials placed on the left and right. The abundance of stone structures and the unique construction style make it valuable material for the study of Joseon dynasty tomb systems.
