Why travelers stop here
Eundae-ri Platy Joints, like the Chatancheon Columnar Joints, is a place formed by lava that flowed backward along the Chatancheon River and solidified. In addition to basalt platy joints, pillow lava and clinker can be observed below, and further down, the Baegui-ri Formation, a gravel layer that existed around the river before the lava eruption, is distributed. It is a representative outdoor geological experience learning site where various geological phenomena can be found. It shows a fold structure with a curved rock surface. A fold refers to a structure where horizontally deposited strata are subjected to lateral pressure, showing a wavy cross-section.
