Jugeumsan

Also called Bidan Mountain, Jugeumsan (813m) is a mountain that lies on the borders of Gapyeong, Pocheon, and Namyangju in Gyeonggi Province. It is surrounded by famous mountains such as Seori, Cheonma, Cheolma, and Chuknyeongsan, as if guarding it. The rocky peaks near the summit and the beautiful Bigum Valley combine to create a landscape as splendid as silk. On the northwestern slope of this mountain, Bears Town Ski Resort is located, and the Bigum Valley, which flows south from the summit, remains unpolluted. It is said that in the past, scholars came to the mountain and hid their geomungo (a traditional Korean string instrument) here, hence the name Bigum Valley. There are two climbing routes: one starting from Naechon and the other from Bigum Valley. To climb from Naechon, start the hike at Sagimak Entrance Pyeongsa Bridge. Cross the stream at Hapsugok, follow the valley, pass steep stone paths and a waterfall, then take the left ridge to a hill. After passing through a field of silver grass, follow the southern ridge to the summit. For descent, from the summit (triangulation point), follow the western rocky ridge, pass below the southern rock peak past Sinseondang, and descend to Neunggol, or follow the southeastern ridge to Bigum-ri. To climb from Bigum Valley, start the hike at the Bigum Valley parking lot. Follow the southeastern ridge, pass the Rock Peak to the summit, then from the Rock Peak, take the southern ridge to Sirubong and descend to the parking lot, or from the summit, pass the waterfall at the saddle and descend to Sagimak Pyeongsa Bridge. At the summit, there are two summit stones erected by Pocheon and Namyangju respectively. If you go to the helipad behind the Jugeumsan pavilion, you can see the signature scenery of Jugeumsan—Dokbawi (Lone Rock) and the pavilion—at once. Many people visit Jugeumsan to capture this view. It is especially spectacular during the azalea blooming season.
