Gangssibong

Gangssibong has an elevation of 830m and is part of the Gwangju Mountain Range that connects Baegunsan and Gukmangbong. It rises on a mountain ridge branching off from Gwimokbong, west of Myeongjisan in Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do. Located on the border between Pocheon-gun and Gapyeong-gun, this mountain features very beautiful scenery on both sides of its summit and offers a charming hiking course. However, due to many famous mountains in the area, it is not crowded with hikers, allowing for a quiet trek, making it a good family hiking destination. From the summit of Gangssibong, in the direction of Pocheon, you can see Geumjusan, Gwanmobong, Gwaneumsan, and Sahyangsan; in the direction of Gapyeong, you can see Gukmangbong, Mindungsan, Hwaaksan, Chotdaebong, Myeongjisan, and Gwimokbong. The hiking course starting from Gangssibong Natural Recreation Forest in Gapyeong includes a shortcut of only 1km, but it has a very steep slope, so caution is required. The pass from Gangssibong Village over Ildong-myeon in Pocheon-si is called Gangssibong Pass (Ottugi Pass). Gangssibong Village, known as the place where Gungye's wife, Ms. Gang, lived, has the name 'Gang' attached to various place names. Meanwhile, after the Korean War, when a military road was built here, it was also called Ottugi Pass after the military unit that worked on it. Crossing the mountain from Pocheon to Gapyeong, you will encounter Gangssibong Natural Recreation Forest with impressive sculptures. At the entrance of the recreation forest, there are pension complexes, making it a great place for families to enjoy hiking together.
