경기도 화성시 남양읍 글판동길15번길 18-3

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Namyanghyanggyo is a local educational institution from the Joseon Dynasty and a hyanggyo (Confucian school) where rituals were held for Confucian sages. It is a representative cultural heritage of the Hwaseong area, with a history of about 600 years. First established in 1397, it was relocated to its current site in 1873 and remains there today. The hyanggyo features the traditional structure of a Confucian school, including Myeongnyundang (lecture hall), Dongjae and Seojae (east and west dormitories), Daeseongjeon (main shrine), Naesammun and Oesammun (inner and outer gates), Subuksil (storage and lodging), and Hongsalmun (red gate). Notably, Myeongnyundang has a unique floor plan with wing buildings connected to both sides of the central building, while Daeseongjeon showcases traditional architectural style with a gable roof.
