Why travelers stop here
Gwangmyeong Upcycle Art Center is a complex cultural space themed around upcycling, located in Gwangmyeong-si, Gyeonggi-do. In 2014, Gwangmyeong-si was selected for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's 'Waste Industrial Facility Cultural Regeneration Project' and remodeled a building previously used as the Gwangmyeong Resource Recovery Facility's public relations wing, opening on June 12, 2015. In July 2024, to improve accessibility for citizens, it moved to Haan-dong (703 Orido, Gwangmyeong-si), the center of Gwangmyeong-si, where it currently operates. The Gwangmyeong-si Resource Circulation Division and Gwangmyeong Upcycle Art Center run various exhibitions, experiential education, and competitions themed around upcycling, as well as business incubation projects for startups. Upcycling gives new value to waste, and in the art exhibitions at 'Gwangmyeong Upcycle Art Center,' ordinary discarded items become artworks, offering new perspectives and inspiration. It presents curated exhibitions with various upcycling materials and themes, serving not just as a simple art exhibition space but as a cultural art space that encourages reflection on our consumer culture and environmental issues, leading to changes for a sustainable life. Through upcycling exhibitions, it aims to expand visitors' opportunities for cultural enjoyment.
