Why travelers stop here
Anjeong-ri Artist Square was created in October 2020, incorporating opinions from Pyeongtaek citizens, local merchants of Anjeong-ri, U.S. military personnel, officials, experts, and artists since 2018. The buildings of Anjeong-ri Artist Square were reborn while preserving as much as possible the existing old structures that have been part of the local daily life, such as Gongjak Yeogwan (Gongjak Inn) and Hyeondae Angyeongjeom (Modern Optician). The outdoor square, which holds the greatest architectural identity, features a slope centered around an outdoor performance stage, creating a spatial sense where people can freely sit or lie down. Additionally, the square's floor, paved with irregularly laid flagstones, fills the space with a leisurely, slow-paced atmosphere, reminiscent of the Geunjeongjeon Hall of Gyeongbokgung Palace or the Woldae of Jongmyo Shrine.
