Why travelers stop here
The West Sea Defense Museum opened in 2011 within the Republic of Korea Navy 2nd Fleet Command to honor the sacrifice of 55 soldiers who died defending the Northern Limit Line (NLL) in the West Sea and to raise public awareness of national security. Visitors can experience vivid scenes through actual military vessels such as the Chamsuri-357 patrol boat and the ROKS Cheonan, along with personal effects and military equipment used at the time, with explanations provided by Navy personnel to aid understanding. On the first floor, the NLL and Naval Battle Room displays the history of the NLL, major naval battles with North Korea, and the sacrifices of the fallen through various materials. On the second floor, the Cheonan Room recreates the situation at the time of the attack and the rescue, search, and salvage operations through videos and dioramas, and confirms the provocation through North Korean torpedo propulsion devices and simulation materials. The Cheonan Memorial Hall is designed to commemorate the lives and sacrifices of the crew members through a exhibition space recreating the interior of the warship and personal effects of the fallen.
