Publishing City Movable Type Printing Museum

The main building of the Publishing City Movable Type Printing Museum is located next to Paju Premium Outlets in Paju Publishing City District 2, and the Movable Type Printing Museum Experience School is on the second floor of the Asia Information Culture Center building in Publishing City District 1. The Movable Type Printing Museum was initiated by writers, intellectuals, and artists concerned about people drifting away from books. In Korea, the world's first movable type printing nation with the finest bookbinding technology, publishers and printers united in regret over the disappearance of movable type printing and five-hole thread binding. Poet Ko Un contributed poems for a movable type poetry collection, cartoonist Park Jae-dong provided copperplate printing illustrations, and Kim Jeong-seon, president of Bojinjae, Korea's oldest publishing house, donated valuable typefaces. Additionally, type, matrices, casting machines from Jeil Hwalja, the country's last type manufacturing factory and retailer, printing equipment including movable type presses and cutters from Bongjin Printing in Daegu, bookbinding facilities collected from across the nation such as Chungmuro and Gwangju, and printing equipment imported from around the world including the United States, Germany, and the United Kingdom continue the legacy of global movable type printing. At the Movable Type Printing Museum and Experience School, visitors can see over-century-old machines and bookbinding equipment in actual operation and have a special and enriching time experiencing Korea's traditional movable type printing and five-hole thread binding firsthand.
