Why travelers stop here
In the early 1980s, as Seoul's Bukchon and Euljiro underwent redevelopment, hanok (traditional Korean houses) from the city were relocated to form Gimpo's Samjae Hanok Village. The Samjae Hanok Village, bearing the image of rebirth, faced another crisis of dissolution in 2004 when it was incorporated into the Gimpo Han River New Town district. However, with a future vision of utilizing existing resources through remodeling as cultural assets, it was transformed into a new cultural tourism complex.
Nestled at the foot of Modamsan Mountain in Unyang-dong, Gimpo-si, Gimpo Art Village is an eco-friendly cultural and artistic space that exudes the charming natural beauty of Modamsan. It consists of 17 hanok, 5 creative studios, the Gimpo Media Art Center (a convergence of media and culture/arts), the Art Center with various exhibition spaces, an outdoor performance hall, and a traditional play yard.
