Why travelers stop here
The Forest Museum is part of the Korea National Arboretum. It was built over a period of 1 year and 6 months from October 25, 1985 to April 5, 1987, with the purpose of collecting materials related to forests and forestry, public education, field study, specimen classification and identification, storage, exhibition, and research. The building is a reinforced concrete structure with one basement floor and two above-ground floors, covering an area of 4,617㎡ (1,400 pyeong). The exterior uses modern new materials such as granite, a domestic stone, and was constructed based on the traditional philosophy of Korean architecture that adapts to nature. The interior was built using domestic timber from Gwangneung, such as Korean pine and Japanese larch. The front wall of the museum features a stone mural that graphically depicts the Baekje period mural 'Sansumunjeon' in a modern sense, with engraved images of mountains, trees, water, rocks, and clouds arranged harmoniously to express nature.
