경기도 양평군 양서면 몽양길 66

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Mongyang Memorial Hall opened on November 27, 2011, to widely promote the life and spirit of the great national leader Mongyang Yeo Un-hyeong, who devoted his entire life to the nation's independence and peaceful reunification. The birthplace, built in 1715 when the Hamyang Yeo clan settled in Yangpyeong, is where Mongyang was born in 1886 and lived until 1908, when he moved to Seoul after completing his father's mourning period. It was destroyed during the Korean War, but in 2001, through the efforts of Yangpyeong residents, the birthplace site was restored, and a monument was erected the following year.

In 2008, the Order of the Republic of Korea (the highest civil merit) was posthumously awarded, and in 2011, the 64th anniversary of his death, the birthplace was restored. The memorial hall, built alongside the restored birthplace, displays relics and materials such as the blood-stained clothes he wore at the time of his death, funeral banners used at his funeral, a desk from his home in Gye-dong, Seoul, and the Order of the Republic of Korea awarded in 2008, allowing visitors to experience his life and spirit. The Mongyang Education Resource Center, an附属 facility of Mongyang Memorial Hall, opened on May 25, 2023, and serves as a channel to spread Mongyang's thoughts and activities to the modern era, offering a place to easily view and search for Mongyang's materials. It also includes a library with Mongyang's materials and books, a lecture hall with 70 seats, and an education room with 30 seats.
