Located in Gwangju-si, Gyeonggi-do, the Gwangju Cultural Center opened in September 1991 and is an institution dedicated to preserving and transmitting the cultural values of the Gwangju area in Gyeonggi-do, as well as improving the cultural level of local residents. Its affiliated organization is the Gwangju Studies Institute, which conducts research on the local history of old Gwangju and aims to instill proper local patriotism and historical awareness among Gwangju citizens. Major projects of the Gwangju Cultural Center include fostering folk games and supporting events, the Namhansanseong Literary Contest, memorial events for former sages, cultural heritage site tours, youth cultural exploration, operation of a cultural school, publication of local historical materials, the Namhansanseong Cultural Festival, and the Toechon Tomato Festival. Among these, the cultural school operates both offline and online courses. For offline courses, various cultural school programs are organized quarterly to recruit students. Online courses include basics of myeonglihak (Chinese metaphysics), basic classical Chinese, line dance, and a nostalgic pop song class, all accessible to anyone through the website.
