Why travelers stop here
Silhak Museum, opened in 2009, is the only museum in Korea dedicated to Silhak (Practical Learning), collecting, preserving, researching, and exhibiting artifacts and materials related to Silhak. True to its theme, the museum offers opportunities to learn, study, and experience everything about Silhak. In particular, various hands-on programs for children are available. On the first floor, there is a special exhibition hall, and on the second floor, exhibition halls 1 to 3 feature captivating visuals that allow visitors to learn about the formation and development of Silhak. The Silhak Cinema, which presents stories of Silhak scholars Jeong Yak-yong and Jeong Yak-jeon through animation, offers an engaging experience for both children and adults. Rather than a museum for mere observation, it is a place where visitors can see, hear, and touch—fulfilling all five senses with everything related to Silhak. After touring the exhibition halls, visitors can participate in activities on the first floor such as making fans, crafting sundial bracelets, and experiencing rubbing. Regular guided tours, led by professional docents, are available on weekdays and weekends without prior reservation—simply arrive at the scheduled time. In addition to the permanent exhibitions, special exhibitions on various Silhak-related themes are held semi-annually. Right next to the museum are the Jeong Yak-yong Historic Site, Literature Museum, and Memorial Hall, which are worth visiting together.
