Why travelers stop here
The National Memorial of the Korean War Abductees is a space to reflect on the history of abduction (拉北) victims since the Korean War in 1950, recognizing the issue of wartime abductees as a present-day problem rather than a past one, and moving toward the future. The memorial aims to raise public awareness about abductions, comfort the victims and their families, and shed light on this painful chapter of Korean history. It remembers each abductee who was a citizen of the Republic of Korea, a precious family member, and a neighbor, and hopes to become a space for resolving the abduction issue, praying for the safe return of those still alive. Furthermore, it aspires to be a place that reflects on the sorrow of abduction victims and their families, who have lived difficult lives without even the most basic human right to live with their families, and to contemplate the value of peace and the meaning of reunification.
