Why travelers stop here
With dense forests and proximity to the Seoul metropolitan area, Myeongjisan Mountain is ideal for a day hike. Located 18 km north of Gapyeong County Office, it stands at an elevation of 1,267 m. As the second highest mountain in Gyeonggi Province after Hwaaksan Mountain, its summit offers dizzying views of the valley below, giving a sensation of flying in the sky. The panoramic view from the top includes high peaks such as Gukmangbong, Gwangdeoksan, Hwaaksan, and Kalbongsan. In spring, azaleas bloom abundantly in various spots. The 28 km-long Myeongji Valley is also known as a summer water play and resort area. With many deciduous trees, the mountain presents beautiful autumn foliage in vibrant colors. As the mountain is relatively not steep, stunning winter snowscapes unfold along the ridges, attracting many visitors. While there are various hiking courses, the course starting from Sangpan-ri on the west side of Myeongjisan, ascending to the summit, and descending to Ikgeun-ri on the east side is suitable even for beginners.
