Yangpyeong Clear Water Market

Whether approaching from Seoul or Yeoju, the road to Yangpyeong runs alongside the waterway. When the waterway is straight, the road is straight; when the waterway bends, the road bends. Following the river, you will come to Yanggeun Bridge, and crossing that bridge leads to the town of Yangpyeong. Looking to the left after crossing the bridge, you will see Yangpyeong Station, and following the stream that flows between them, you will find Yangpyeong Clear Water Market. Centered around a permanent market with about 400 stores, on the days when the five-day market is held, about 200 street stalls are set up. Yangpyeong is an area where the Namhan River and Bukhan River, originating in Gangwon Province, meet, and it has been a transportation hub using waterways since ancient times. Goods traveling from Gangwon Province to the capital Hanyang had to pass through Yangpyeong Ferry, and a market was established along with the goods coming and going, bustling with many people. Although transportation has changed from waterways to roads and trains, many people still visit Yangpyeong Market for the food produced in Yangpyeong. Tourists visiting nearby attractions such as Jeong Yak-yong's birthplace adjacent to Dumulmeori, Semiwon, and Yongmunsan Mountain also gather at the market on five-day market days, as if guests are gathering for a feast. At Yangpyeong Clear Water Market, there is active sales of agricultural products such as seasonal vegetables and fruits produced in Yangpyeong, and wild greens harvested from Yongmun. In addition, there is an abundance of freshly prepared foods that add to the market's festive atmosphere, including the long-famous Yangpyeong hangover soup, as well as noodles, pancakes, and sorghum dumplings.
