Why travelers stop here
Sagang Market is a traditional market located in a place called Sagang [沙江], named because seawater flows in front of the village and white sand accumulates like a river. It served as a key transportation hub connecting Songsan, Daebudo, Yeongheungdo, Suwon, Ansan, and other regions of the three southern provinces, playing a central role in the distribution of goods. Established in 1915, the market boasts a long tradition of holding markets even before its official opening, and it was greatly expanded in the 1980s. It is also historically significant as a site where people gathered to hold a independence movement during the March 1st Independence Movement in 1919. The nearby fish market, centered around the West Sea, is active in selling various seafood, attracting many visitors from Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. The five-day market is held on the 2nd and 7th of each month, and on market days, various agricultural and marine products can be purchased at lower prices than on other days.
