Why travelers stop here
Gapyeong Jatgoeul Traditional Market opened on July 28, 1923, as merchants gathered along the stream in front of Bonapsan Mountain, making it the oldest traditional market in northern Gyeonggi Province. Registered as a traditional market in 2015, it has been revitalized through the operation of a merchant university, joint marketing projects including a flea market, and a weekend night market. In 2020, the electric vehicle 'Jatgoeul Heungppeoseu' began operating, connecting Jaraseom Island, Gapyeong Rail Bike, and Gapyeong Jatgoeul Market.
In front of the parking lot, the 'Jatgoeul Youth Palpal Train,' a food box mall, is lined up like train cars, and the market displays charming and cozy items. It sells homemade doenjang, cheonggukjang, and meju, as well as various vegetables and fruits grown in Gapyeong, dried fish and fresh fish, side dishes, and salted seafood. Additionally, there are plenty of snacks to enjoy at the market, such as fried foods, tteokbokki, fish cakes, sundae, ppeongtwigi, donuts, and twisted doughnuts. Clothing and various miscellaneous goods are also sold. Gapyeong is famous for spring herbs, so visiting the market in spring allows you to taste delicious wild greens.
