Suwon Nammun Market, boasting the largest scale in Gyeonggi-do, is a collective name for as many as nine markets in the vicinity: Jidong Market, Paldalmun Market, Minari Gwang Market, Motgol Market, Yeongdong Market, Simin Sanga Market, Nammun Fashion 1st Street Market, Gucheon-dong Tool Market, and Nammun Rodeo Market. During the reign of King Jeongjo, a permanent market called Sijeon was established on Jongno Street near the bell pavilion inside Hwaseong Fortress in Suwon, and a five-day market was held outside Paldalmun Gate. This can be seen as the beginning of today's Suwon Nammun Market.
