Baekamjang (1st, 6th)

Baekamjang is held on the 1st, 6th, 11th, 16th, 21st, and 26th of each month. In the past, it was famous as a market for pigs, cattle, and rice, but now it is widely known as a sundae market. This is because sundae, which uses abundant pork intestines—the region has the highest number of pigs raised nationwide—mixed with various vegetables and meat, offering a savory and mild flavor, has become the face of the market. With a tradition of over 100 years, Baekamjang initially thrived as the largest cattle market in the country, attracting clothing, fish, makgeolli, and fruit vendors from all over. However, due to industrialization, it declined, and now it is not much different from other periodic markets, with about 100 shops and stalls selling food, clothing, and general goods. Nevertheless, Baekamjang is laying the groundwork for a revival with unique items such as various vegetable seedlings and 'Gondal eggs' sold with Baekok rice.
