Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Located overlooking Naejang Reservoir, this monument commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Donghak Peasant Revolution and was erected on May 11, 1997. Right next to it is Naejangsan Sculpture Park. Made of granite, marble, and black stone, the monument consists of a main tower and a secondary tower. The four-sided pyramid of the main tower symbolizes the ideals of the Donghak Peasant Revolution, and the white marble symbolizes the spirit of the national uprising. It was built to a height of 1,894m to honor the year 1894 when the Donghak Peasant Revolution occurred. The three-tiered golden crown at the top symbolizes the Gobu Peasant Uprising, the March Baek-san Uprising, and the September Samrye Uprising. The secondary tower, made of hard stone, consists of four cylindrical pillars, which symbolize the four classes (scholars, farmers, artisans, merchants), equality, horizontality, and society. Each pillar is 1,100m in height and 85cm in diameter. This monument was created by Jeon Su-cheon, an installation artist from Jeongeup. Nearby are Naejangsan Water Park and Naejangsan Culture Plaza. Address: 214 Naejanghoban-ro, Jeongeup-si, Jeonbuk State (Ssangam-dong)
