Goseanseowon (Uljin)

Goseanseowon was a Confucian academy located in Gumi Village, Uljin-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do, enshrining the spirit tablets of Joseon Dynasty civil officials Im Yu-hu, Kim Si-seup, and O Do-il. In 1628, Im Yu-hu came down to this area, built a pavilion at Gosan, and taught disciples and studied scholarship for about 20 years. After his death, his disciples established Gosansa to commemorate Im Yu-hu. Later, O Do-il, who was appointed as the local magistrate, built Dongbongbyeolmyo at Haenggok-ri Juchondae, a place frequently visited by Kim Si-seup, to honor his scholarship and virtue, and named it Guamsa. After O Do-il's death, in 1715, it received the royal charter name [Gosan] and was elevated to Goseanseowon, where Im Yu-hu, Kim Si-seup, and O Do-il were jointly enshrined.

Goseanseowon was demolished while serving the functions of honoring former sages and local education, and was never restored afterward. The spirit tablets were buried in the ground, and only a memorial monument remains at the site of the academy. Before its demolition, the buildings within the grounds included Gosansa, a lecture hall, a main gate, Dongjae (east dormitory), and Seojae (west dormitory).
