Why travelers stop here
Kim Gu-won's Tofu is a restaurant specializing in healthy tofu dishes made in the traditional way. It is a renowned tofu family that has continued its tradition for four generations since 1938, and is registered as a master of Korea's intangible cultural heritage. On the first floor of the building, there is an exhibition space decorated like a small museum with folk items that evoke the passage of time, and the second floor is used as a restaurant. In another building, a tofu factory is also operated, providing customers with freshly made tofu produced in-house. The signature menu, Gireok Tofu, uses domestic soybeans and, instead of bittern, uses sansuyu (Cornus officinalis) when making the tofu. It is said to be the first tofu to include eight medicinal ingredients (astragalus, atractylodes, angelica, jujube, red ginseng, yam, and tangerine peel) that help replenish energy, and it won the New Knowledge Agriculturalist award in 2017. The restaurant is named after the second-generation owner, Mr. Kim Gu-won, and it exudes pride as a renowned tofu family.
