Gugak Sarang

서울특별시 종로구 북촌로11길 35-16 (가회동)

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

It is a place you can reach by walking through the alleys of Bukchon Hanok Village, feeling the atmosphere of the traditional houses. When you open the gate with the large sign reading 'Rewriting the Elegance of Hanok,' you will find a space consisting of the main building, a separate building, and a wooden floor. As it also serves as a residence, you can enjoy catching glimpses of old Korean household items such as jars, millstones, and small dining tables. The experience is divided into two types. The first is a program consisting of 'omija tea + traditional sweets or fruit + traditional Korean music appreciation.' While you taste the food, lively traditional Korean melodies fill your ears. The second is an experience of 'omija tea + traditional sweets or fruit + introduction to traditional Korean instruments + learning Jindo Arirang + learning janggu.' Through the 'introduction to traditional Korean instruments,' you will learn about the history and characteristics of Korean traditional instruments. Then, you will sing the traditional folk song Jindo Arirang. After that, you will learn the semachi rhythm by beating the janggu. The experience concludes with a time to combine the Jindo Arirang you learned earlier with janggu playing. It may feel unfamiliar, but it is the part of the experience that tourists enjoy the most. You will see their shoulders naturally bobbing up and down. Reservations are required.
