Geumjeongsa Temple

Geumjeongsa Temple is a temple of the Tongdosa Hadong Branch, the 15th diocese of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, located in Daesong-ri, Geumnam-myeon, Hadong-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do. It was established in 1948 by Jeong U-gyeong at 15 Daesong-ri, Geumnam-myeon, Hadong-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do, and was originally called Geumgangsa Temple. After the Korean War, Jeong U-gyeong left the temple, and several monks resided there but did not stay long, leaving it without an abbot for 20 years. In 1970, Kim Mun-su was appointed as abbot and relocated the temple to its current location at 35 Daesong-ri, Geumnam-myeon, Hadong-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do, changing its name from Geumgangsa to Geumjeongsa (金政寺). At that time, the main hall (Daeungjeon), bell pavilion, and monks' quarters were built. In 1999, Hyecheol was appointed as abbot, renaming Geumjeongsa (金政寺) to Geumjeongsa (金頂寺), and constructed buildings such as Samseonggak, Chunghyeonjeon, the three-story Ansimyo, a true relic stone pagoda, and restrooms.

Regular dharma meetings are held on the first and fifteenth of every month. In 1954, at the wish of Geumjeongsa Temple, a spirit tower was erected to commemorate the souls of 334 soldiers and youth mobile unit members from Hadong-gun who died defending the country during the Korean War, and to preserve their valuable sacrifice as a national heritage. The temple also conducts projects to honor these patriotic spirits. Related cultural properties include Gyeongsangnam-do Tangible Cultural Property "Hadong Geumjeongsa Sansintaeng" (Mountain Spirit Painting of Geumjeongsa Temple, Hadong), Gyeongsangnam-do Cultural Property Material "Hadong Geumjeongsa Chilseongtaeng" (Seven Stars Painting of Geumjeongsa Temple, Hadong), and the Geumjeongsa Yeongnyeongtap, a memorial facility of the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs.
