Destination briefing
Why travelers stop here
Geumjin Port was originally called Meokjin or Heukjin, meaning 'black port' due to the dark soil, but was renamed Geumjin in 1916 when the administrative district was reorganized and Geonnam-ri was merged. Tourists passing along the coastal road between Jeongdongjin, one of Gangneung's representative tourist attractions, and Okgye Beach occasionally stop their cars at Geumjin Port, a midway stop. Among the sections of this coastal road, the Heonhwa-ro between Simgok Port and Geumjin Port is particularly famous for its beautiful scenery, attracting many tourists who visit specifically for this coastal road.
