Jinbulyeong

강원특별자치도 고성군 간성읍 진부리

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Jinbulyeong is one of the major passes crossing the Taebaek Mountains from east to west, which were formed by the east-west compressive tectonic movement that occurred from the late Tertiary to the early Quaternary of the Cenozoic Era, and it is the lowest pass in the central region of the Taebaek Mountains. The western slope of Jinbulyeong, facing Inje, has a gentle incline, while the eastern slope, facing Goseong, is relatively steep, showing an asymmetrical shape. The name Jinbulyeong originates from the location of a lodging facility called Jinbuwon during the Joseon Dynasty. Due to the Taebaek Mountains, which run north-south, there are many differences in climate, customs, language, and lifestyle between the Yeongdong and Yeongseo regions.
