Welcome to Dongmakgol Filming Site

Welcome to Dongmakgol Village in Pyeongchang, Gangwon-do, is well known as the filming location for director Park Kwang-hyun's film 'Welcome to Dongmakgol'. The film, which depicts the confrontation and reconciliation between South Korean soldiers, North Korean soldiers, and UN forces, drew 8 million viewers nationwide and won awards such as Best Picture and Best Supporting Actress at prestigious domestic and international film festivals. Due to the film's success, over 100,000 tourists visit this place annually. The filming site, which preserves the old coal mine entrance 'Dongmak Wind Cave', Teacher Kim's house, a 500-year-old zelkova tree that served as a place of harmony transcending ideology among South Korean soldiers, North Korean soldiers, and villagers, and the crashed US fighter jet in Dongmakgol, vividly brings back each scene of the movie. Nearby attractions include Yeongwol Coal Mine Culture Village, Pyeongchang Rock Park, and Baengnyong Cave.
