Dogye Station Water Tower

The Dogye Station Water Tower in Samcheok-si is an old water supply facility for steam locomotives located within Dogye Station. Installed in 1940, this water tower, along with the Wonju Station Water Tower, shows the typical water tower style of the time. The water tank capacity is 26 tons, the floor area is 16㎡, and the lower circumference is 14.2m. Its height is 8m, which is relatively low compared to other water towers, because it was installed at a location 4m higher than the rail level to achieve appropriate water pressure, making it a unique case of adjusting the tower's height in consideration of the terrain. The Dogye Station Water Tower is divided into a lower part that supports the water tank and an upper part that is the water tank facility. The lower part is a machine room for water supply and drainage, with a circular floor and a domed ceiling inside; the entrance to the machine room has an arched door frame. The upper part is the water tank facility, featuring a dome style with four semicircular dormer windows used as ventilation openings. It was registered as a National Registered Cultural Heritage in 2003.
