Destination briefing
Why travelers stop here
This is the tomb of Ungok Won Cheon-seok (1330~). Master Won Cheon-seok was bright in scholarship from a young age and played a major role in the spread of Neo-Confucianism along with Mogeun Yi Saek and others, and was also the childhood teacher of King Taejong of Joseon. When politics became corrupt at the end of the Goryeo Dynasty, he lamented this and retreated into Chiaksan Mountain to hide. When the Joseon Dynasty was established and a government post was offered to him, he upheld his loyalty to Goryeo to the end and did not take the position. Within the tomb area, there is a tombstone in front of the burial mound and a stone table (sangseok) for placing ritual food, and at a short distance away, there is a simple form with a divine stele (sindobi).
