Wonju Jo Eom Myoyeok (Tomb of Jo Eom)

This is the tomb of Muneungong Jo Eom (1719–1777). Jo Eom was a civil official of the late Joseon Dynasty, skilled in writing and deeply concerned with the livelihood of the people. While serving in various posts such as Jipyeong and Suchan, he made many contributions, including establishing jogchang (grain depots) and reducing the tax burden. In particular, in the 39th year of King Yeongjo's reign (1763), he went to Japan as a diplomatic envoy (Tongsinsa) and brought back sweet potato seeds, succeeding in cultivating sweet potatoes for the first time in Korea, which greatly helped the poor.

In front of the burial mound, there is a stone table (sangseok) for placing ritual food offerings and two mangjuseok (stone pillars). To the left of the stone table stands the tombstone, and about 100 meters away, along the entrance path to the tomb, there is a sindobi (stele). The sindobi, made of granite, follows the typical style of the Joseon Dynasty.
