Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

This monument was erected on March 15, 1958, by the Republic of Korea Army's III Corps to honor the soldiers who fell in the Battle of Baeseoksan. The Battle of Baeseoksan was a fierce hill struggle that took place from August 18 to October 28, 1951, in which the ROK 7th and 8th Divisions, along with the U.S. 96th Field Artillery Battalion, fought against North Korean and Chinese forces. The ROK troops recaptured key heights such as Hills 883, 901, 536, and 554, securing Baeseoksan and seizing the operational initiative. The battle extended to the southern hill complex of Eoeunsan, where ROK forces overcame Chinese resistance, occupied key heights, and stabilized the front line.
