Why travelers stop here
Cheorwon Damteo Valley is a valley located in Sangno-ri, Dongsong-eup, Cheorwon-gun, Gangwon-do, through which Damteocheon, a tributary of the Hantan River, flows. The name 'Damteo' comes from the legend that the bones discarded after hunting and eating wild animals were enough to build a wall. The valley is about 7km long and features spectacular scenery from the entrance. The vertical cliff, Bulsangam, which is reached after passing Meokbawi Rock and Sinpo-dong on the southern foot of Yongsan Mountain, is considered the highlight of Damteo Valley. Even in midsummer, the dense trees and clear water give a chill. The water flowing over the bedrock remains clean even during the rainy season, so with snorkeling gear, you can see fish in the water. It is about 2 hours by car from Seoul, making it easily accessible, and with clear water and moderate depth, it is a good valley for children to play in the water.
