Samyeongsan Mountain

Samyeongsan Mountain is 1,198m high and belongs to the inland range of the Taebaek Mountains. To the southwest stands Jugeupsan Mountain (859m), and to the southeast Bonghwasan Mountain (875m). On the eastern slope, a gentle foothill stretches about 8km, encompassing Dongsu-ri, Jeongnim-ri, Andaee-ri, Hakjo-ri, and Gong-ri in Yanggu-eup, and this area has been the center for Yanggu-eup's development into a local city. In Seokhyeon-ri, there is a dock connecting Soyanggang Dam and Yanggu, and through Unsuhyeon Pass, it leads to Chugok in the south and Unsugol in the north. According to the old record 'Sinjeung Dongguk Yeoji Seungnam', during droughts, rain prayers were held at a pond on the mountain's summit to bring rain. It is also known as a battleground where civilian militia fought against Japanese soldiers during the Imjin War (Japanese invasions of Korea, 1592-1598). From the summit of Samyeongsan Mountain, one can view the areas of Chuncheon, Hwacheon, and Yanggu, and it offers a panoramic view of Soyang Lake to the east and Paro Lake to the west, making it the 3rd of the Eight Scenic Views of Yanggu.
