Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

The name Yongyeon Cave means that a dragon that lived in a dragon's pond ascended to the sky along a valley. Yongyeon Cave is located at an elevation of 920m on the lower ridge of Geumdaebong Peak, the central part of the Baekdudaegan mountain range, and is known to have been formed about 150 to 300 million years ago. The cave is approximately 843m long and consists of four plazas and a circular horizontal passage. Inside, 38 rare species, including the long-legged blind ground beetle, inhabit the area. The nearby ecological and landscape conservation area, Daedeoksan Geumdaebong, is famous for its spectacular wildflowers, often called a heavenly garden.
