Hongcheon Rose of Sharon Park

Hongcheon Rose of Sharon Park was established to commemorate Hanseo Namgung Eok, who widely propagated the rose of Sharon during the Japanese colonial period. The park is a rose of Sharon theme park with about 1,500 varieties of rose of Sharon planted, which differ in type and blooming season. Inside the park, there are a monument with a poem by Namgung Eok, a monument to the citizens' charter, a memorial tower for the loyal dead, a 3.1 Independence Movement tower, a monument to the Battle of Hongcheon during the Korean War, and a memorial tower for anti-communist victims. Admission is free, and the park is used as an educational venue to teach local patriotism and love for the country to Hongcheon residents and youth. Inside the Rose of Sharon Park, there is the Hongcheon Museum, where visitors can see the history and cultural heritage of Hongcheon. Nearby cultural properties, including Hongcheon Jin-ri Stone Buddha, presumed to be from the Goryeo period, the Four Lion Three-Story Stone Pagoda in Goeseok-ri, Hongcheon, and the Hongcheon Huimang-ri Dangganji Pillar, presumed to have been built during the Unified Silla period, are scattered around, so visiting them together will help you understand the history and culture of Hongcheon.
