Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Gwangdeok Valley is a valley in Hwacheon-gun, Gangwon-do, located in the upper reaches of Saenaecheon Stream, which originates from Gwangdeoksan Mountain, flows past Baegunsan Mountain, and empties into the Bukhangang River. Situated between Baegunsan and Gwangdeoksan, it boasts beautiful natural scenery and is a clean valley featuring small waterfalls and pools of unpolluted, clear water. In autumn, the surrounding peaks—Baegunsan, Gwangdeoksan, Muhakbong, Beonamsan, Gamtubong, and Sanghaebong—display spectacular fall foliage, while in summer, the cool water and breeze make it an ideal summer resort for families. Gwangdeok Valley is not crowded and has shallow water, making it great for children to play in, and it is convenient with well-equipped restrooms and parking facilities. Nearby accommodations such as minbak (private lodgings) are available for rest after swimming, and Tomato Sculpture Park, Hwaeumdongjeongsa Temple Site, and Bokjusan Natural Recreation Forest offer pleasant walks and forest bathing.
