Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Samtaemi Village is a basin surrounded by mountains on the left and right with Baegunsan Mountain in the background, and is a typical remote mountain village in Korea, located 30 minutes from Wonju. During the Japanese colonial period, it was called Daldun because there were many hills (eondeok), and it was later changed to Dadun Village. Although the exact period cannot be confirmed, according to a legend passed down from old times, Dadun Village was an area where gold was abundant in the past, and the businessman who ran the gold mine had many workers, but the profit from the gold mine operation was only five don (a unit of weight) of gold, so it was called Datdon. Then, during the Japanese colonial period, it was called Daldun because there were many hills (eondeok), and it was later changed to Dadun Village.
