Sokcho Joyang-dong Historic Site

Joyang-dong (Onjeong-ri) According to the excavation survey conducted by the Gangneung University Museum (from May 22 to July 31, 1992) in the Joyang-dong housing development district, this site is a Bronze Age (7th–8th century B.C.) dwelling site. In particular, the stemmed vessel excavated from the site of House No. 3 is similar to artifacts excavated from Musan Hogok-dong in North Hamgyong Province, a late Neolithic site in the northeastern region of Korea. It is the first such artifact excavated in South Korea and is evaluated as an important artifact that clearly demonstrates cultural exchange between the northeastern region and the Yeongdong area of Gangwon Province during the late Neolithic and early Bronze Age.
