Myeongseondo Island

An uninhabited island located in front of the octagonal pavilion at Jinhahaesuyokjang Beach, in Seosaeng-myeon, Ulju-gun. Originally called Myeongseondo (鳴蟬島), named after the many cicadas that sang there. Another theory suggests it was derived from 'Maenseom' (meaning barren island), which transformed into 'maemi' (cicada) and was then transliterated. Currently, it is called Myeongseondo (名仙島), meaning the island where immortals came down to play. At night, Myeongseondo transforms into a fantastical space different from daytime through media art and colorful lighting that utilize the surrounding natural environment and elements. The media art depicting the sea waves and waterfalls flowing over rocks, along with colorful lighting effects, make it feel like the Pandora Island from the movie Avatar.

Access to the island is possible via a temporary bridge installed at the entrance according to the tide. Entry is prohibited except on designated walking paths, and caution is required for nighttime access. For tide times, inquire by phone or refer to the Gangyang Port tide table. Fishing activities are prohibited around Myeongseondo as it is a community fishing ground.
