Why travelers stop here
Mukho Lighthouse is a lighthouse located near Mukho Port, a major port in Donghae City, Gangwon Province, and is the endpoint of Nongoldam-gil. Climbing the spiral staircase of the lighthouse reveals a wide-open view of the East Sea, offering a refreshing panorama. Below the hill where the lighthouse stands, there are several cafes and guesthouses facing the East Sea.<br/>On Nongoldam-gil, a tourist attraction in Donghae City, wall paintings embodying the history of Mukho Port and the lives of seaside residents are inscribed on the walls. In 2010, local elders and artists communicated and collaborated to paint these works, so they are referred to as 'damhwa' (conversation paintings) rather than 'murals.' Nongoldam-gil, formed in Nongol Village, is divided into four sections: Nongol 1-gil, Nongol 2-gil, Nongol 3-gil, and Deungdae Oreum-gil, all of which converge at Mukho Lighthouse. Along the winding hill path, you can see phrases like 'I can live without a husband, but I cannot live without rubber boots,' and paintings depicting the simple lives of villagers, such as an elderly woman carrying a large bundle on her head and a jigge (A-frame carrier) porter transporting squid and pollock. 'Wind Hill' at the end of Nongol 1-gil boasts the most beautiful scenery on Nongoldam-gil. There is a photo zone where you can take pictures against the backdrop of the East Sea, offering a panoramic view of Mukho Port and the village with its colorful roofs. Additionally, LED lights that produce various colors are installed, allowing you to enjoy beautiful illuminations at night.
