Baekseoktan Valley

Baekseoktan Valley is located within Sinseong Valley, which is considered the best of the eight scenic views of Cheongsong. This site is also a UNESCO Global Geopark attraction. Selected as one of Gyeongsangbuk-do's only top 10 tourism contents, Cheongsong Baekseoktan Valley means 'a stream where white stones glisten.' Along the stream flowing through Gowa-ri, Andeok-myeon, Cheongsong-gun, the white rocks on the stream bed have been carved into unique shapes over a long period, forming pothole terrain. There is a fishing platform called Jodae, where it is said that people in the past enjoyed fishing, and a small pond called Gasayeon, where fishermen were said to be naturally inspired by the surrounding scenery while fishing. During the reign of King Injo of the Joseon Dynasty, after Kim Han-ryong pioneered the Gowa village, he called the stream Gogyae because of its clear and beautiful water. In the 26th year of King Seonjo's reign, a general named Godugok, after losing his subordinates to the Japanese army, passed by Baekseoktan and, impressed by the beautiful scenery, renamed it Gowadong.
