Wangbangsan (737m) is a mountain spanning Pocheon-dong and Sinbuk-myeon in Pocheon-si, Gyeonggi-do, and Dongducheon-si. It is located at the northern end of the Cheonbosanmaek, the western branch of the Gwangju Mountain Range, and rises prominently west of Pocheon-dong.
Two legends are associated with the mountain's name. One tells that around the 3rd year of King Heongang of Silla (872 AD), when Buddhist monk Dosan-guksa was staying here, the king personally visited to encourage him, hence the name Wangbangsan ("King's Visit Mountain"). The other story says that after abdicating the throne, King Taejo Yi Seong-gye, on his way back to Hanyang, heard news of his sons' fratricidal strife and stayed for several days at Wangbangsa Temple on this mountain to soothe his heart, giving the mountain its name. Wangsansa Temple has been restored on the temple site.
