Wangsansa Temple (Pocheon)

Located in Sin-eup-dong, Pocheon-si, Wangsansa Temple is a temple belonging to the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism. According to the 『Bongseonsa Bonmalsa Yakji (奉先寺本末寺略誌)』, it is said that Wangsansa Temple was founded by National Preceptor Doseon in 877 (the 3rd year of King Heongang's reign), but this is not certain. In 1572, monks Cheongam and Baegun rebuilt it, and in 1627, monks Cheongsan and Muyeong reconstructed it and named it Wangsansa Temple. Later, the temple's lineage was severed, but in 1947, monk Cheongmae rebuilt it and named it Bodeoksa Temple. In 2003, during the renovation of the temple grounds, a roof tile inscription reading 'Wangsansa' was discovered, and based on this, the name was changed back to Wangsansa Temple, which remains to this day.
