Paju Imjingang Eight Scenic Views

The origin of the Eight Scenic Views of the Imjingang River known to us comes from the 'Naesojeong Eight Scenic Views Poem' (來蘇亭 八景詩), a poem describing the beautiful scenery around the Imjingang River as seen from the pavilion Naesojeong, which was located on the banks of the Imjingang River in Jangsan-ri, Munsan-eup. Naesojeong was a pavilion south of Imjin Ferry, built by Shin Seung-seon (愼承善), Duke of Geochang, who served as Yeonguijeong (Chief State Councilor) during the Joseon Dynasty. During the reign of King Sukjong of Joseon, the scholar Hogok Nam Yong-ik (壺谷 南龍翼) ascended Naesojeong and recited the beautiful scenery of the Imjingang River, which became the Naesojeong Eight Scenic Views Poem, the origin of the Eight Scenic Views of the Imjingang River. The first scenic view is Hwaseokjeong Spring: spring at Hwaseokjeong; the second is Jangam Fishing: fishing at Jangam; the third is Songam Clear Clouds: clear clouds at Songam; the fourth is Jangpo Drizzle: drizzle at Jangpo; the fifth is Dongpa Watching the Moon: the moon at Dongpa Station; the sixth is Jeokbyeok Boating: boating at Jeokbyeok; the seventh is Dongwon Evening Snow: evening snow at Dongwon; the eighth is Jinsa Dawn Bell: the dawn bell at Jinsa.
