Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Yulgok Arboretum is a place created for the conservation, propagation, and exhibition of plant genetic resources. It is a transformation of a city-owned forest that was well-maintained through reforestation projects in the 1960s. It temporarily opened in June 2015 and officially opened in June 2021. Currently, the arboretum has 21 themed plant gardens. Along with 70 donated trees of 15 species from citizens, it houses approximately 80,000 trees of 700 species and 220,000 herbaceous plants of 500 species, totaling about 300,000 plants of 1,300 species. Yulgok Arboretum operates forest experience programs such as a toddler forest experience program for young children, and forest healing programs for participants up to their 80s, including Healing Forest, Family Forest, Mom Vitality Forest, Silver Forest, and Nordic Walking. Additionally, the 5 km arboretum trail surrounding the arboretum includes an observatory overlooking the Imjin River, a pine scent trail, and Munbawi Rock, offering rich and diverse attractions. To the north lies the Imjin River, and to the east are Mt. Papyeong and Mt. Gamak, providing panoramic views of the Imjin River area and scenic mountains. It is also close to the historic sites of Yulgok Yi I and Hwang Hee, allowing for linked tourism in the area.
