Why travelers stop here
This market represents the traditional markets of northern Paju-si, originating from the Munsan pavilion near the Imjin River during the Joseon Dynasty. It is a 5-minute walk from Munsan Station on the Gyeongui Line. Supplying goods through the Imjin River to Hanyang as well as Pocheon, Gaeseong, and Cheorwon, Munsan Free Market served as a distribution hub and endured the Japanese colonial period and the Korean War. It continued as a market on the 5th and 10th of each month, then revived as a market on the 4th and 9th starting in 1989. You can buy a variety of fresh products at low prices, and there is a wide array of street food, delighting both the eyes and the palate. In particular, customers who purchase over 10,000 won receive a service product linked to DMZ tourism.
